Tinnitus What Is It

Understand What Tinnitus Really Is and How To Overcome It

Ringing Sound In Ear – The Future Of Tinnitus Sufferers

Ringing Sound In Ear

In the long term, "they" almost certainly will not find a single cure for tinnitus because tinnitus has so many etiologies (causes). Tinnitus is experienced in so many ways that it seems like aggressive multimodal treatment programs will continue to be in the best interest of the average tinnitus sufferer. What these clients will find is that tinnitus can be greatly reduced in most cases through desensitization and alternative attention therapies.

The Multi-Modal Approach That Works

For years I have advocated a multi-modal approach to tinnitus therapy, and that has proven to be right on the mark. For the average client suffering with severe tinnitus, I recommend the following, in order of importance: Continue reading

Ringing In The Ear Treatment – Goal Of Tinnitus Therapy

Ringing In The Ear Treatment

We have yet to see a documented case wherein a client improved dramatically after one session of hypnotherapy of psychotherapy. Generally speaking, 15 hours or more of therapy are necessary. It takes some time to get those big eight-lane highways in the brain to atrophy into dirt roads that rarely traveled. That, by the way, is the goal of tinnitus therapy. The objective and focus of the therapist should always be to:

(a) desensitize the client to the sound of tinnitus; and

(b) teach the client how to focus on other experiences in life – past, present, or future – that do not have "tinnitus on the highway." Continue reading

Ear Ringing One Ear – Your Healing Process

Ear Ringing One Ear

Each day of your healing process, I urge you to make a log of the volume of your tinnitus, the distress you felt that day (or week or month), and other components of your lifestyle that may be affecting your tinnitus. Please keep excellent records for yourself and for your health practitioner. You make your physician job much simpler if you are prepared when you see her or him. Remember, your doctor cannot hear your tinnitus.

By keeping an easy to read chart, such as the one that follows for you to keep daily, weekly and monthly, you will provide important information to your health professionals and have greater personal insights into your healing process. However, these five check marks per day is all I can have you listen to your tinnitus for. You'll always hear your tinnitus while in the healing process, but you may not listen to it! Humming In Ear – Focus Of Attention

Humming In Ear

You may have been told that you should, "just ignore your tinnitus." This is not possible! Please ignore the imagined picture you have in your mind of President Bush. Ignore it now. Ignore it. You see, you cannot ignore something that you are trying to ignore.

What you can do is create an external focus of attention. Remember the last time you were fascinated by a book or entranced in an excellent speech? You were externally focused. In psychology, this is what is known as a flow state. When you are completely in a flow state, you cannot hear your tinnitus, regardless of its volume. Now this may seem difficult to believe, but it is true. Continue reading

Ringing In Ear Dizziness – Tinnitus Common Therapies

Ringing In Ear Dizziness

Regression Therapy

Regression therapy is one form of hypnotherapy. In regression therapy, the client is regressed to a time before the onset of the tinnitus to discover the trigger of the noise, if it is unknown. Approximately half of all individuals do not know how their tinnitus onset. This will come out in therapy, in most cases. Generally speaking, from this point the therapist can help the client in a couple of ways.

The therapist may have the client simply re-experience onset over and over until the emotional impact becomes boring or even amusing to the client. This is an effective form of systematic desensitization that re-educates the amygdala, so it no longer sends out the flight-or-fight survival responses into the brain and body. Continue reading
